Vision

Transparency in Government

A credible democracy requires transparency in decision making. Council needs to open its doors and engage citizens on the issues and decisions that impact their daily lives and their future. The public should have a voice and vote in the sale of public utilities and infrastructure. I believe we need checks and balances and support strengthening measures to ensure there is accountability and transparency in city government—including a stronger role for the City Auditor and the establishment of an Civic Ombudsman role.

Balancing Growth and Sustainability

Unrestricted growth—with ever rising costs of core services and infrastructure—is not sustainable. As a council, we need to achieve a thoughtful balance and have the courage and vision to lead this work, setting clear parameters and timelines for expansion. Funded neighbourhood redevelopment plans must be in place to ensure integration of the community’s priorities in decision making before departmental or development infill is approved. I am also committed to preserving our river valley and natural spaces as a treasure for this generation and those to come.

Infrastructure

As our city grows and develops, I believe all elements need to work together to form a solid backbone of roads, publicly funded utilities, services, and programs for individuals, families and businesses to provide stability for the long term. As route and funding for the West LRT is considered, I will work to ensure plans integrate community and revitalization priorities and advocate that such infrastructure must strengthen and enhance communities in Ward 1.
