Projects
This is a brief overview of some of the projects and initiatives I have taken an interest in.
Seniors Initiative
After taking office, I requested to take on an initiative to help seniors live full and healthy lives in Edmonton. This has resulted in a variety of projects, three of which I would like to profile. They include the Aging In Place Project, End of Life support and the Creative Age Festival.
Aging in Place Community Demonstration Projects/End of Life Supports
- Aging in Place Community Demonstration Projects
Implement and evaluate two Aging in Place Community Demonstration Projects (SE site with seniors in six neighbourhoods and Mill Woods focusing on support to immigrant seniors) (completed by July 2012) - End of Life Supports
Aligned with efforts to make Edmonton's communities age friendly and to support aging in place pilot outcomes, a review is currently being undertaken of the City's cemeteries and accompanying services for hospice and respite care (completed by July 2012) - Outcomes
Develop, evaluate and disseminate information relating to aging in place initiatives, community engagement models and end of life supports
Creative Age Festival (CAF)
- Assist with the coordination/evaluation of the 2011 Creative Age Festival (June 7 - 13)
- Assist with future sustainability and governance plans (completion date TBD)
- Outcomes
Increased awareness and participation in the 2011 Creative Age Festival, increased awareness of the benefits of arts for seniors, increased year-round arts participation by seniors and future sustainability plan for CAF
The Edmonton River Valley and the Top of Bank
Another long standing interest of mine has been our River Valley. I regard it as a treasure for all Edmontonians to enjoy. Below are a few recent reports that were written at my request on the issues of Top of Bank encroachment and our River Valley protection policy.
